Local Business Marketing Mission Job 1

Last time I was saying that most business owners make the mistake of limiting their marketing efforts to making money.

Making money is obviously the point of being in business… but "what kind of money?"

What do I mean by "kind of money?"

Well there's money that comes in once and money that comes in over and over again.  Which would you prefer?

Most people focus on getting a "sale."

They think in terms of "having a sale" or "running a promotion."

I want you to think differently… after all if you can go to the effort of making a sale wouldn't it be nice if the same effort paid you over and over again?

Instead of a "promotion" I want you to think of what you are doing as a "campaign."

The purpose of a campaign is to build a relationship… one which has as its goal to win your customer's lifetime business and loyalty.

If your marketing or promotional activity succeeds in changing the way your customers think about your business, product or service as part of their life and integrated into their world…

And they really see you and your business as valuable to them…

Then you have created a real business, not just a sale.

The difference between a real business and a sale is that a real business doesn't go away tomorrow after the "Christmas sale."

The effect of this kind of marketing – focused on your customer and your relationship with your customer – is that you have not only someone who patronizes your business, but someone who believes in you and your business and will spread the word to others.

This results in more profits for you and a great feeling of why and how you are in business.
